Becoming a member of CEOs for Cities makes you part of a national movement to keep America globally competitive by strengthening our cities.
Cities are the solution to so many of the challenges and opportunities our nation faces.
As a brain trust for cities, the CEOs for Cities network is an unparalleled cross-sector network of the brightest urban leaders from the civic, corporate, academic, and philanthropic sectors working to advance urban strategy. Engagement in this network presents opportunities for learning and collaborating, while thinking unconventionally about issues. CEOs for Cities offers a place for fresh thinking on the conditions that matter most to the success of cities in a knowledge economy: talent, connections, distinctiveness and innovation.
• Cross-sector network: CEOs for Cities is composed of more than 200 urban leaders representing 45 cities. It is the only national nonprofit that engages leaders from the civic, corporate, academic, and charitable sectors in partnerships around urban innovations.
• Research: Members help shape the CEOs for Cities agenda. They have first access to research that offers new insight on what enables cities to thrive and that provides actionable strategies for their own cities. Upcoming projects for 2008 aim to help urban leaders:
• Quantify the gains to be realized from achieving median and top 10 performance on selected City Vitals measurements
• Understand the opportunities associated with creative cities
• Create places of innovation in the public realm
• Expand the portfolio of urban amenities and evaluate these projects while still in the concept stage
• Take full advantage of the differences that make cities distinctive
• Learning Networks: Too often, important findings in urban research end up buried in reports rather than put to work in cities. CEOs for Cities brings insight to action through Learning Networks, each engagement brings 3-4 member cities together to learn from one another while planning and piloting concepts from our research. Participation in Learning Networks is included as part of membership.
• Dynamic Discussions: Our Spring 2008 National Meeting, Next Generation Cities: Finding New Sources of Strength in Tough Times brought our network together May 13-14, 2008 in Pittsburgh to discuss how urban leaders can seize opportunities even in the face of very real economic setbacks. With provocative presentations by leading urban thinkers and response panels composed of practitioners, this gathering engaged members to think of cities as the solution to today's challenges. Our Fall 2008 National Meeting set for November 6, 2008 in Chicago will offer the opportunity to review election results and their implications on cities. Edge events, smaller group dialogues on leading-edge topics, also take place throughout the year. Edge I: The Potential of Mega-Regions was held February 12, 2008 in Charlotte and Edge II: Theories of Urban Success was held on May 29, 2008 in Boston. Members receive complimentary registration for all meetings and events and the opportunity to host these events in their cities
