CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

Imagine a community taking up the challenge to make art, beauty and nature available to every citizen.  What would full engagement look like?  What would be an effective quick start strategy?  Where are the early wins to create momentum?  And how would a community know when it is succeeding?

Those are the questions we will tackle as part of the Livability Challenge.  It is one of five big challenges that are part of the US Initiative – an initiative to build and sustain the next generation of great American cities that are of, by and for us.

On October 11-13, 2010, CEOs for Cities and the Central Indiana Community Foundation will host the Livability Challenge in Indianapolis, home of the spectacular Indianapolis Cultural Trail.  One of a series of US Initiative Challenges in five cities, the Livability Challenge will ask urban leaders in Indianapolis to imagine the future of livability as expressed in the Declaration of Interdependence: We can enjoy beauty, nature and art every day.

Working with a team of national livability experts led by Will Rogers, president of the Trust for Public Land, CEOs for Cities and the Central Indiana Community Foundation will seek to determine what it takes to instill beauty and inspiration into the daily lives of the citizens of Indianapolis.
