The Next Administration

Monocle has published its own list of "Dream Team" candidates for positions in the next Administration.  Here are some of its picks I particularly like:

Steve Jobs as Innovation Director... because "one of the greatest threats to the national security of the US has nothing to do with cave-dwellers in Afghanistan or a bored Putin but simply that the country will lose its pioneering spirit of innovation."

Amory Lovins as Chief Scientist, Energy & Environment... because "from his perch at the Rocky Mountain Institute, he has been badgering governments for 30 years about energy efficiency and kicking their oil addictions. We think it's time he started enacting his policies."

Jeffrey Sachs as head of Overseas Development... because "he has dedicated much of his career at The Earth Institute to the cause of eradicating poverty and hunger."

Michael Bloomberg as head of Urban Affairs... but I like Pentagram's Paula Scher's idea much better: "I would create a 'Department of Cities' that would merge urban housing development with inner-city infrastructure planning, healthcare, security, mass transportation, energy and education. The point of this new department would be to help cities solve their problems through holistic planning and programming. The various agencies in the department would work collaboratively with local mayors to advise, support, monitor performance and make appropriate aid available."
