Taking Back The Streets

Mayor Bloomberg, in cooperation with three business improvement districts, is taking a bold step toward making New York City more pedestrian and bike friendly. The plan is to take a section of Broadway in Midtown and reduce traffic lanes from four to two, opening up space for bike lanes and a pedestrian way with cafe tables. The area will be insulated from the roadway with flower filled planters. One of the people interviewed in this New York Times article said it best: “I think we’ve got enough places for cars and not enough places for people to sit.” Amen, brother.
