Pittsburgh’s Learning Cloud

Last week Pittsburgh City Councilman and CEOs for Cities partner William Peduto held a groundbreaking for an innovative new outdoor learning environment in Pittsburgh’s Schenley Plaza.
Joined in the announcement by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Florida-based partner N21, Peduto described the project as “the type of innovation that will bring to life the objects that surround us every day and also create new opportunities for citizen involvement.”
The big idea involves N21’s Outdoor Learning Cloud, a convergence of location aware mobile devices and GIS communication tools that create a multimedia cloud of learning information in a free and open public space. In this case, the cloud will provide historical and educational information about Schenley Park, including its natural environment and architectural details of the surrounding neighborhood.
Pittsburgh was selected as the first city to pilot the Outdoor Learning Cloud technology.
