CEOs for Cities’ Give a Minute campaign plays an important role in Mayor Bloomberg’s plan for New York City in 2011. In his State of the City address, Mayor Bloomberg emphasized the importance of urban participation and committed his support for Give a Minute. The Mayor plans to use Give a Minute to surface innovative ideas from citizens and give them a platform for organizing to turn their ideas into action. The crowdsourcing model will ask, “Hey New York, how do we make greener neighborhoods?” Respondents via the Internet and cell phones will post their ideas as a part of PlaNYC 2030, New York City’s strategic plan for the future. Using Give a Minute as a platform, New Yorkers will generate ideas to improve the city, and as Mayor Bloomberg says, “With more than 8.4 million people in our crowd, imagine what we can come up with.”
