CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

With a recent Gallup poll finding that one-third of working adults are very or somewhat concerned about "losing a sense of purpose" in their lives after they retire, financial advisors are recommending that retiring boomers take up hobby jobs to keep themselves active. Retirees who report the highest level of satisfaction are those who are actively engaged.

This seems like an opportunity ready-made for smart urban leaders. Retirees can supplement the city's labor force, provide an experienced source of leadership and organize volunteer-run community improvements.
