CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

Robert Putnam, author of "Bowling Alone," says his latest research shows that the more diverse a community is, the less likely its inhabitants are to trust anyone. "In the presence of diversity, we hunker down," Putnam told Financial Times. "The effect of diversity is worse than had been imagined. And it's not that we don't trust people who are not like us. In diverse communities, we don't trust people who do look like us."

Putnam is not ready to give in to his findings. As he told FT, "trends have been socially constructed and can be socially reconstructed."
