The Center of the Art World? There's Not One
June 18, 2006
Posted by: Carol
Douglas McLennan edits the marvelous artsjournal.com and in a recent column on the fading London art scene, he writes, "... thanks to a booming market, the ease of Internet marketing, and a traveling circus of major biennials, triennials and a new generation of art fairs, artists can enter the global art conversation from anywhere. Their work is accessible from any point on the globe at any time of day, and they don't need to be identified with a particular 'movement' to be noticed. At the moment, it's Chinese artists who are attracting a major share of attention. Tomorrow, who knows..."
His observations make a larger point about talent. In a global world, talent can emerge from anywhere, and no city has a lock on it.
