The incidence of violent crimes such as murder, rape and aggravated assault was down 5.5% from 2008.  And in big cities, the news was even better. There crime was down 6.9 percent.

Was it better policing?  The economic stimulus?  No one is quite sure, but whatever it was, we're pleased.
