CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

With $1 billion at stake, the Memphis Talent Dividend initiative is kicking off with speed.  Co-chaired by Kathy Buckman Gibson, chairman of the board for Buckman Laboratories Inc. and Tomeka Hart, president and CEO of Memphis Urban League and commissioner at Memphis City Schools, the initiative is creating a 100-day action plan to increase college attainment by one percentage point.

100 Things In 100 Days asks leaders to consider what they can do within their own organizations to boost college attainment. For instance Buckman Laboratories will identify those with some college on its payroll and increase awareness of its employee benefit programs.  The City of Memphis will do the same for its employees to promote its tuition reimbursement program.  The Memphis library will organize and host a college fair.

Hats off to David Williams, president of Leadership Memphis who is heading up the Memphis Talent Dividend effort and behind this quick-start action strategy. With key commitment in place, we’re eager to cover the success of this initiative when it officially launches this August.
