Web 2.0 for Cities
January 14, 2010
Posted by: Rebecca
How can cities leverage substantial costs savings in these tough times by using Web 2.0 technologies? How can city leaders engender more transparency, collaboration and participation in their cities?
Innovative uses of Web 2.0 will be the focus of The Rockefeller Foundation’s 2 day CityCamp slated for January 23 - 24, 2010, at the University of Illinois, Chicago Innovation Center. CityCamp takes Gov 2.0 to the local level. It will explore and document ideas, lessons learned, best practices, and patterns related to use of social/participatory media, linked open data, and Web as platform at the local (city and municipal) level.
CityCamp will follow an "unconference" format where the participants themselves will decide the tracks, topics, and sessions.
The potential for city leaders to change the game on how they facilitate services using network technologies is enormous. Kudos go to our friends in Grand Rapids, especially City Manager Greg Sundstrom, Deputy City Manager Eric DeLong and Director of the Planning Department Suzanne Schulz, who are pushing into this exciting territory.
Visit citycamp.eventbrite.com for more information on CityCamp.
