CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

This email came today and reminded me that you can create an asset out of anything -- in this case, street food.  (And notice the personal signatures after the "Yours in tacos" sign-off.)  Thought I would share...

Did you say street food?

Just six weeks to go until Eat Real! Not only do we have more than 40 street food vendors who will be selling their delectable treats from a wide assortment of wheeled carts, we’ll also have great music and beats at the event. You can check out the schedule here. And don’t forget, Eat Real entrance is free of charge—you only pay for tickets to the beer tasting shed!

The food news for Eat Real just gets better: Ryan Farr will be crashing the event Saturday night with his famous hot dogs and chicken beer sausage. And speaking of meaty treats, word about the festival made it all the way to Alabama, where the state’s most famous duo of barbequers, Jim & Nick, decided they had to come. They’ll be driving their rig all the way from the Deep South and BBQ-ing California’s best free-range turkey and goat. For you pupusa lovers, Maria del Carmen of Estrellita’s Snacks will be cooking up her acclaimed Salvadorean pancakes all weekend long. You can even wash them down with her super nutritious and delicious ensalada juice. And for you juice purists, Urban Nectar will be serving their double-juiced fruit drinks—lemonade with lemon ice cubes anyone?

And just in case you think food will be the only things on wheels, we’ve got some surprises in store. Eat Real is proud to be premiering the Bay Area’s next “food porn” magazine, from a trike. And for you t-shirt fans, Oaklandish will be on hand, selling some pretty cool Eat Real shirts.

Helados and Gelatos
We’re happy to announce that Fruitvale’s celebrated Nieves Cinco de Mayo will spooning their hand-cranked Mexican ice creams (helados), and Gelatería Ceci will be scooping out their fresh-made gelatos at Eat Real. These are just two of the awesome ice cream makers who will be onsite for our big Friday night ice cream extravaganza. As with all of our vendors, we’ll be announcing additional ice cream vendors thru our Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Kid’s Programming
We are putting our final touches on special kid’s programming on Saturday and Sunday and we’ve got some kid-specific demos being cooked up at our From Scratch Kitchen. We’ll also be doing family tours of our Good to Go Market twice a day, where they can meet some of the Bay Area’s best farms, including Full Circle, Quetzal, County Line, Marshall’s Farm, Straus Family Creamery, Bee Kind, and Sonoma Direct.

Killer Taco Recipe Contest and Box
And it was a tough competition, but we finally decided on the winner of our Killer Taco Recipe Contest. Erin Vang totally wowed us with her “Tacos Natalia”—an Indian/ Spanish fusion with snapper ceviche and homemade tortillas! You can find her delicious recipe on Civil Eats and, of course, in the Fruit Guys special taco-themed produce box. Make sure to order your box by July 27.

Finally - home-canners it’s not too late to buy a pickle share at the Yes, We Can pick-up party tomorrow at our partner organization La Cocina from 5:30-7p. Besides picking up your awesome pickles, you can also chow on some Let's Be Frank hot dogs. Hope to see you there!

Yours in tacos (and felafel, and the occasional salad),
