CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

Next time you’re in London, forget stopping to smell the roses.  Stop by for a tinker on the piano, street-side.

In a bid to foster public spirit and trust, 31 pianos are being placed around the city at prominent sites such as Tate Britain, the British Library and Carnaby Street “to encourage people to gather for a singsong with strangers.”  Conducted as an experiment, the project is backed by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and the national lottery.

As well as presenting an example of a different approach to building social capital, it’s a great experiment in new modes of public participation and participant-led community culture creation.
