Orange Alert
May 9, 2006
Posted by: Sheila
Metropolis (June, 2006) reports on Object Orange, an anonymous group of artists working in Detroit using paint to advocate demolition as a positive force for change.
"Object Orange scouted out neighborhoods cursed with an exceptional number of collapsing houses -- several of them marked by the city with a 'D' for demolition -- and returned before dawn to cover their facades with Tiggerific paint [a Disney bright orange]," reports Metropolis.
Results? Three of nine houses demolished with months.
"If nothing else, Object Orange has produced a new typology for site-specific art installations: art as a possible agent of demolition," the article concludes.

Isn't this called vandalism in most cities?
