Building a System of Opportunities
April 30, 2009
Posted by: Rebecca
Here’s one example of a program exploring how to foster a system of opportunities for learning to build the creative capital of our future generations.
Thriving Minds emphasizes the importance of developing opportunities for children to be creative as a key to improving the lives of children, families and communities. It focuses on improving and making more equitable the exposure to creative learning opportunities, with the belief that “the largest equity challenge for the 21st century... is who will have the chance to develop his or her ‘creative capital’.”
If your city is looking at how to assess and increase opportunities for creative learning, take a look at Building a System of Opportunities for Creative Learning, the second year report and evaluation of progress.
A set of tools have been developed to track the progress of this initiative, including ways to examine
· nurturing creative capital,
· mapping and distributing the supply
· understanding, responding to and building demand
· improving quality.
As our Creative Cities Network has recognized, those cities that can develop creative capacity and provide the conditions in which all people can be developed into a powerful talent resource, significantly expand their opportunities to succeed.
