CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

How do we help mobile talent connect with place?  Better yet, our place?  This is one of the big questions for cities.

Lavonzell Nicholson and Ishaneka Williams have won a competition for the best business proposal to do just that: help the 23 – 35 year olds who have moved to New Orleans to help rebuild find connections to the city and increase their reasons to stay.

Knowing that young professionals who move to another city for a job want to meet new friends outside of work, the pair landed on the idea to create a recreational sports league that hosts social activities off the playing field.

The idea won them $200,000, the grand prize in the Idea Village and 504ward's Valued Business Competition, which offered $100,000 in start-up cash and $100,000 in resources.  More on their winning idea here.

The prize will help them get started in the bigger competition for a thriving and loyal talent pool – with bigger pay offs.
