CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

Good for Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood for his endorsement this morning of Portland's transit system as "a model for the nation."  LaHood also called Portland a model for reducing pollution, "getting people out of their cars" and creating "livable" communities.  How encouraging it is to see Secretary LaHood acknowledge that getting people out of their cars is a good thing that leads to livable communities.  My only tiny quibble with his comments is that he didn't acknowledge the role buses plan in Portland's transit system. Buses aren't sexy but if they are clean, easy to board and frequent. they are a good way to travel.
