CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

Nicolai Ouroussoff must have been eavesdropping on my week.  His column in today's NYT was headlined "Reinventing America's Cities:  The Time Is Now."  Truer words have never been written.

"We long for a bold urban vision," he wrote.  "With their crowded neighborhoods and web of public services, cities are not only invaluable cultural incubators; they are also vastly more efficient than suburbs.  But for many years they have been neglected, and in many cases forcibly harmed, by policies that favored sprawl over density and conformity over difference."

"The changes needed may seem extravagant, but they are not impossible."

We agree. And that's why CEOs for Cities is undertaking an exciting new piece of work that will engage 130 experts and thousands of urban advocates to imagine the next generation of great American cities.  The effort will be broad reaching, just as it should be and will be staged in four cities initially, then spread to the top 50 metro areas.

More to come on this soon, but in the meantime, please let me know if you are interested in participating.  You may also have others to suggest as experts or urban advocates. Write me at ccoletta AT ceosforcities.org.
