CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

In keeping with the theme of this week’s City Trends report, Instant Karma, here is an example of one company working to engage the public in community service.  Starbucks, as part of its Shared Planet initiative, intends to motivate people to 1 million hours of community service per year by 2015

Offering ways to get involved, connecting people and showcasing their contribution, this provides an example of the importance some organizations are placing on co-producing value with their customers.  It also reminds me how powerful engaging people in a cause can be.

What could our cities achieve if they had an extra million hours of service from their community members each year?
