CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

Hockey came to Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.  It was the unusual scene of the Winter Classic, with the Chicago Blackhawks facing off against the Detroit Redwings.

Here's how the Tribune's Paul Sullivan described the experience:

"The Wrigleyville experience—including the ballpark, the bars, the rooftops and assorted local curiosities—was the main reason this year's Winter Classic was a true Chicago classic.  The dogged pursuit of happiness was in full throttle all day long, and even a Blackhawks loss couldn't spoil the fun. For thousands of freeze-dried fans, a regular-season hockey game turned into a communal celebration of the city, its teams and its traditions."

That's why Philadelphia's stadia, sitting in a vast parking lot, (or Chicago's United Center, for that matter) will never have the same impact or generate the same communal feeling.
