CEOs for Cities is a national network of urban leaders dedicated to building and sustaining the next generation of great American cities.

Mayors meet in Chicago Thursday with Valerie Jarrett, White House Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Relations and Public Liaison.  Jarrett is expected also to have the new Office of Urban Policy reporting to her.  Reports are that mayors will at minimum describe the type candidate they hope will head the office.  They are also likely to offer names.  With Bronx Borough President Aldolfo Carrion already appearing in the NYT and Washington Post as Obama's choice for the post, it will be interesting to see if additional names get floated post-meeting.

Once the leadership shakes out, urban leaders ought to have much better access to a sympathetic Administration.  In Barack Obama and Valerie Jarrett, they will have two people at the very top with hands-on experience in urban housing, transit, city government, community organizing, and education.  Could it get any better than that?
