Midnight Madness Alert
October 17, 2008
Posted by: Carol
As college basketball fans know, Midnight Madness is when fans get to cheer their team's first practice. My team is the University of Memphis, and one of the many reasons is its coach, John Calipari. John was sounding downright presidential in his invitation to fans to attend.
As my favorite sports columnist Geoff Calkins wrote in today's Commercial Appeal, "If you're planning to come to Memphis Madness at FedExForum tonight, John Calipari would like you to follow these strict instructions.
1. "Leave the gas prices outside FedExForum," he said.
2. "And the economy. Leave that out there, too."
3. "Leave out the ills of the city."
4. "Leave it all out there."
Gee, with all that left outside FedExForum, what should people bring in with them?
"A good feeling," Calipari said. "I want everyone to have a good feeling."
Calipari is one of those guys for whom motivation comes naturally. I hope the next President can get Americans similarly focused on the task at hand, ready to sacrifice so we win in the end.
