The New York Times called it "Night Life Reprogrammed."  It's today's story on how young, tech-savvy New Yorkers are getting together at night under banners like "Ignite NYC" to show off their wonky skills, their best ideas and their best advice.  As one participant put it, "Instead of just going out to drink and be bored, you're talking to interesting people who are starting cmpanies and telling great stories."  Here's what is also significant:  Most tech events are free, open to anyone and give all comers "a rung to begin climbing."

What is your city doing to provide a rung to begin climbing?  Is it open, free and available to all?  Does it add value to the talents of your people?

In Milwaukee we have a group called Web414 http://www.web414.com/ that gets together at Bucketworks (a coworking place). Sometime they'll have an event call MilaukeeDevHouse where people will stay all night, share ideas and work on projects...
