When it comes to boomers, demography is not necessarily destiny, according to new figures reported by Business Week. According to a study by Kevin Coyne of Coyne Partnership, "the size and growth rate of the U.S. retirement market will be much smaller than is widely believed." For financial and social reasons, fewer boomers are retiring. Instead of the 78 million projected number of retirees, the actual number of "true retirees," which excludes those who never worked in the first place, will reach only 29 million in 2017 -- and that's if the trend to work longer stops today.
