In an attempt to lure more tourists, Las Vegas is launching a new campaign tagged with this new line: "Your Vegas Is Showing." The effort, according to The Wall Street Journal, is "aimed at keeping the destination's winning naughtiness message intact, while creating a new message to highlight some of Vegas's tamer features -- high fashion, extravagant shows and gourmet dining -- that it hopes will attract new visitors."

Most interesting part of the story is this: "Research has long shown that people behave differently in Vegas, allowing themselves the money and permission to do things they would never do at home." (That, I assume, includes getting married.) But it also includes consuming differently. "It is the case that a very fixed-budget young couple from Des Moines may buy a Prada scarf in Vegas. They won't do it anywhere else, but they'll do it in Vegas."

The new line seems odd and inauthentic to me (Who is likely to repeat this line vs. the current "What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas?), but the research is interesting.

This may be spam, but besides catchy slogans, Las Vegas is failing to capitalize on their world famous sign - the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign. The famous road sign marks the South entrance of the Strip and has been used by many Las Vegan to brand their businesses as a "Las Vegas" business. It has become an icon through the ages and should be treated as such. So as I (heart) NY combines slogan with imagery to create "I Love NY", so too can Las Vegas combine the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas sign and benefit from its imagery. Diamonds, Rings and Stars are all shapes that comprise the Las Vegas sign and may be articulated in a new slogan that will meld the two. Btw - My business rents a 11' x 6' working replica of this world famous sign that can be customized to "brand" your special event.
