Although surveys suggest that fewer people are likely to leave New Orleans in March of this year compared to October, 2006, the jump in homes for sale tells a different story.

By the first quarter of this year, there were 11,029 homes for sale in New Orleans, a big jump from the previous first quarter high of 8000 in 2004. Worse is the gap that opened between homes for sale and those sold. Only 3,983 were sold in the first quarter of the year.

Speculation is that the recovery is just too slow for many people, particularly those in the health care profession. The high cost of insurance may be another reason for slow sales.
