Atlanta BeltLine, a Model for Smart Growth

An article in The Atlantic named the Atlanta BeltLine, a CEOs for Cities partner, "the country's most ambitious Smart Growth Project." The Atlanta BeltLine is transformative $2.8 billion public-private partnership project that aims to construct a loop of transit, trails, and parks around downtown Atlanta. The plan includes private investment in workforce housing, light rail expansion, multiuse trails, and brownfield redevelopment in an effort to revitalize 22 miles of an abandoned rail and industrial corridor. "Significant achievement in the development and improvement of parks" and affordable housing initiatives are already underway. While the transit component of the project is still to come, the Atlanta BeltLine has the opportunity to "create an incredible model not just for Atlanta, but for cities around the world."
