An Invitation to Ride
Posted by Sheila Redick on January 31, 2006
Maybe this is one of the reasons CTA ridership is up.
I just received an email invitation from the Graham Foundation to attend an upcoming program. At the bottom of the email was the following:
"The Graham Foundation is accessible via CTA buses 22, 36, and 151 and is within walking distance of the Clark/Division stop on the red line and the Sedgwick stop on the brown line."
What if every city agency, every nonprofit, every community service provider attached similar information to its invitations and directions?
I suspect two things would happen: First, urban leaders in many cities would find that you can't there from here without a car. And awareness is the first step toward solving a problem. Second, more people would consider transit as an option. It would seem "normal."
A small thing, indeed, but one that could have impact. Kudos to the Graham Foundation for showing us the way.
